The FIRM Workout and Muscle Confusion

Muscle confusion means shocking your body into new levels of fitness by alternating workouts. When you perform the same exercise routine every day, your body become accustomed to the same movements and you may reach a plateau where you are not seeing the results that you were expecting. I recommend purchasing 2 – 4 FIRM workouts and alternating each day. This is very effective and you WILL notice results. In fact, The FIRM guarantees that you will see visible results within 10 workouts.

The FIRM has “Total Body Aerobic Workout with Weights” tapes and also tapes/DVDs that focus on various parts of your body – legs, upper body and abs. They also offer “FIRM Parts.” These are tapes / DVDs that combine clips from various workouts into one session.
During my college years in the 80’s, Jane Fonda videos were the rage! My friends and I would pop the high aerobic workout video into the VCR and begin jumping around until we all began dropping like flies. Maybe I burnt a lot of calories but I did not tone up. I can honestly say that this was not very important to me until I saw an advertisement for The FIRM Aerobic Workout tape series.
I was impressed with the aerobic workout with weights. I saw healthy and shapely women (not stick figures) lunging and squatting while lifting 5, 8 and 10 lb weights. I had to try it! I ordered the first tape in the FIRM series and have been hooked ever since. That was in the late 80s. Now over 20 years later, the FIRM Workout is still going strong.

I have to say that I have a certain loyalty to the first video release of FIRM tapes that were produced in the 80s. These tapes featured Master Instructors, Susan Harris (she’s awesome!), Janet Jones, Sandahl Bergman, Jayne Poteet, Heidi Tanner, Kai Soremekun and LaReine Chabut. These were the first tapes in the series and they were way ahead of their time. Prior to using the FIRM, I had never heard of step aerobics, aerobic workout WITH weights, muscle confusion or plyometrics. These are all very common in workouts today. With regards to the step up aerobics, the FIRM went a step further and used a 14’ inch stool to reshape your hips and thighs “…like those of a racehorse,” the FIRM once
stated…and it does!

The firm originated in 1979 in South Carolina, when the first FIRM Studio was opened. The FIRM combined cardio and weight training and realized by doing this, people could not only burn fat but build muscle. Aerobic workouts without weight resistance can actually cause muscle loss which can cause weight gain because muscle burns fat.
The FIRM wanted to share their workout program with those who were unable to travel to their studio and the FIRM Workout Series was born. Over ten million tapes have been sold since…not bad!

I cannot say enough about the FIRM. The series delivers! Over the years, people have asked me how I have kept in shape and I would recommend the FIRM. Each time, a new “FIRM Believer” was born. I am now in my early 40s and with a combination of healthy eating (most of the time) and using the FIRM (except for a period of time when I slacked off), I have maintained a weight of between 125 – 135.
